A Quick June Recap

The ‘problem’ with talking to other bloggers is that when you take a day and a half off of blogging, they demand to know why. Well, I’ll tell you the same thing I told Brittany: this week I’ve been spending all of my mental energy focusing on telling Bumpy that in his/her spare time (which I really believe [s]he has plenty of), (s)he should probably try to shove his/her head through my pelvis, just to see what happens.

This negotiating is not going well so far, but I haven’t given up hope yet. Evidently Bumpy is not the risk-taking type and has no interest in what could possibly be on the ‘other side’ of my cervix.

I don’t blame Bumpy, though, I’d probably stay put and drink the Oreo-flavored amniotic fluid for as long as possible, too.

But seriously, Bumpy, any day now.

So obviously, I’ve had limited amounts of mental energy to pour into blog posts, but I fully intend on writing a June recap, so here it goes!

In June we…

  • Celebrated Bumpy with Tim’s family at a wonderful baby shower in downtown Naperville (the suburb of Chicago I grew up in). Tim’s mom and sister threw it for us and I had the absolute best time and we played really fun games and laughed a lot and I drank Mexican hot chocolate and ate tons of mini-cupcakes and tiny sandwiches and it was seriously the very nicest event. Tim’s female relatives from both his mom and dad’s sides of the family came and I just felt super-blessed by the entire day. Tim was also there, and I should mention that we played a game that involved guessing my belly size. Tim’s guess was easily DOUBLE my actual belly size. How big does he think I am?! Answer: huge.

  • … And then we were surprised by a baby shower that our small group from church threw for us. There were snacks, drinks, games, gifts, and adorable onesies that I’m beyond obsessed with. We thought we were getting together for a normal night with our church group, so it was definitely a (wonderful) surprise when it turned into a baby shower!
  • Ate dinner outdoors with friends as often as possible. Patio dinners are one of the things that sustains me through Chicago winters.
  • Went on my first ‘blate’ with Brittany. She’s going to move to Chicago so we can see each other far more often. I mean, she didn’t necessarily agree to this plan, but I’m sure she’ll be on board.
  • Watched my brother graduate from DePaul University – he now officially has a Masters Degree!

  • Spent Father’s Day with Tim’s extended family during which we spent time outside and chatting with everyone. I love that Tim and I are both from huge families. My family members are mainly located in Ohio, so it’s extra-special that Tim has so many family members nearby.
  • Ate brunch after brunch after brunch. Because it’s the best meal of the day.
  • Were blessed with a baby shower thrown by my two close friends for all of my Chicago-area friends. It blew my mind that so many of my girlfriends came to celebrate Bumpy! Friends showed up from seven different states to be there, which made my little heart go pitter-patter. The evening was filled with awesome food, games, gifts, and laughter. It was incredibly special for me to see so many of my friends in one place!

  • Put together the nursery and the hospital bag and also went on a tour of the hospital and met with our doula for the last time before I go into labor. We are prepared darnit. Well, at least we seem prepared when other people ask us about how prepared we are. Really, we’re probably mentally not quite there yet. Will we ever be, though?! Doubtful.
  • Learned a thing or two (or seventeen bijillion things) about breastfeeding.
  • Attended a bridal shower for one of my good friends who is getting married and moving to Australia super-soon. I always love celebrating the life transitions of people I love, but it’s still sad when awesome people decide/need to leave Chicago (and me!) to start their new adventures. On the plus side, I totally won my first bridal shower game ever! It turns out I know my romantic movie quotes!
  • Went on a date night to Margies, which is my new favorite dessert place in Chicago. We split a sundae and a root beer float and my little pregnant heart was so happy. If you’re ever in Chicago, I would look this place up and go there immediately.

  • Watched (and loved) the second season of OITNB. Now I can’t wait for season 3 and the knowledge that it won’t be out until next year around this time is enough to make me very, very sad.
  • Received even more gifts when my coworkers threw a surprise mini-shower for me and my two coworkers who are also due this summer. There was cake, streamers, gifts, and a delicious (free) lunch at a seafood restaurant. Seriously, could I be surrounded by a more supportive group of people?! I am very aware at how blessed I am.

  • Started getting daily texts asking about whether Bumpy has made his/her grand appearance yet. I can only imagine this is going to get worse post-due-date! Wish me patience, friends.
  • Spent time with good friends and their new(ish) babies, playing games and talking and enjoying food and each other’s company.

This was my last month recap that will mention a ‘Bumpy’, since July will certainly include his/her birth and I can stop referring to the baby as Bumpy and will be able to use a ‘real’ name. Although, I am a little afraid we’ll all still call the baby, ‘Bumpy’. What a nickname, right?!

In July we’re anticipating the birth of our first little one and all the new experiences and sleep deprivation and magical moments that is sure to entail. I’m working on embracing the uncertainty that this month has in store.

Please continue sending our growing family positive thoughts & prayers for a safe and healthy delivery for both me and Bumpy!

Cheers!
