Ah, the end of the week.

I just sat down with a warm cup of tea (yes, it’s 3pm as I’m typing this… so I’m clearly off to a slow start today!) and I’m just waiting for the cries of Clara to interrupt my productivity streak. And by ‘productivity streak’ I mean that I took a shower, made tea, and sat down to blog, so I’m feeling pretty darn productive thank you very much.

(This Week) I Kept Myself Busy By

… reading this book.

… volunteering with CEP (Center for Economoic Progress) & VITA to assist in preparing tax returns for low income families in Chicago. (If you make under $53,000 per year, you may be able to get your taxes prepared and filed for free!)

… trying out a new (for me, at least) yoga studio.

… going to Tim’s holiday party and schmoozing with his coworkers and drinking a vodka tonic (or two three).

… watching The Bachelor – the only TV show I still watch. Please don’t judge me too harshly.

… eating at Fat Rice for our Wednesday-night-date-night. It was delicious and I highly recommend it if you’re in the Chicago area!

(This Week) I’ve Learned:

  • Grace, grace, grace…. I need more of it in my life. (here)
  • A little about building connections. “Most people spend 80% of their time trying to get people to notice them by showing off how different they are and 20% trying to find something in common once they have some attention. What you should really be doing, though, is spending 80% of your time finding common ground with people you want to get to know, and 20% of your time falling back on those unique things that set you apart.” (here)
  • I don’t need to try these lifehacks, but I’m glad someone else did! (here)
  • I should share more. (here)
  • This song is about the birth of a child. WHAT? My mind is blown. (via here)

(This Week) Clara

… had her six month doctor’s appointment (with shots) and handled it all like a champ.

… refuses to sit or lie down. She just wants to stand all of the time. Let me tell you, it’s exhausting holding a baby up who can’t stand up by herself.

… started eating purees twice per day. She doesn’t really love banana but she does love carrots and avocado.

… hung out with Uncle Brian one evening and Grandma & Papa another evening.

… cheered on the Packers (and was a bit disappointed when they lost).

… went to the grocery store and sat in the front of the cart for the first time ever.

(This Week) I Wrote:

  • On motherhood and my growing confidence (an unanticipated side-effect!). (Tues)
  • A bit about how awesome ‘Unbroken’ (the book) is. (Wed)
  • Advice for new moms – leave the house! (Thurs)
This weekend I’m excited to spend time with friends and my little family! I’m planning on cooking a new recipe and cuddling lots and lots with some laughter thrown in for fun.

What was the highlight of your week?!
