Weekending in DC

We spent this past weekend in Washington DC, which just so happens to be one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s one of my favorite places for many reasons, but the main one is that it is currently home to two of my best friends, so visiting there is a real treat for me!

One of my best friends, Lisa, turned 30 last week, so we ventured to the east coast to surprise her.

Some highlights of our trip:

// Surprising Lisa in her apartment on Thursday night – she couldn’t believe we were there!

// Staying a block away from DuPont Circle (at the Palomar Hotel) and walking around the neighborhoods near there.

// Eating a lobster ‘MOMlet’ for brunch in honor of Mothers Day at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe.

// Receiving the cutest Mothers Day card from Clara.

// Perusing the Eastern Market.

// … And also the Farmers Market near DuPont Circle.

// Walking around the National Mall for a bit of time – although I guess it’s tourist season because it was packed and we didn’t spend too long there.

// Playing with Clara at the neighborhood playgrounds near DuPont Circle and Eastern Market.

// Enjoying coffee on the cutest patio in the Georgetown neighborhood, and then also sitting near the waterfront there.

// Eating dinner at a delicious Indian restaurant, Rasika, in the West End neighborhood. Everything we ordered was super-delicious and if I lived near DC I’d be going back there often.

// And also eating at District Commons, which had amazing flatbread and salads.

// And also eating at Sweetgreen. I wish they had one of these in Chicago! I absolutely loved their umami grain bowl.

// Basically, a highlight of the trip was eating. We ate a lot and it was all delicious and even though Chicago is a foodie town, DC still impressed us!

// Experiencing the beautiful 85 degree weather they were enjoying there! It was great to be out in the warmth for an entire weekend.

// Going consignment clothing store hunting – there are quite a few stores in the area, and I did find a blouse I love.

Friends in DC
But most of all, the entire weekend was wonderful because I was able to spend time with two best friends in the same city – which hasn’t happened since my wedding! I was super, super thrilled to be able to catch up in person with each of them – separately and together. It was also really nice to be able to spend time with Tim and Clara. Because of Tim’s work schedule, it’s not often the three of us have the chance to hang out together for a few days in a row!

Have you been to DC? Do you love it as much as I do?
