Celebratory shots for everyone!

I can’t possibly post a ‘normal’ (is there such a thing?) blog post today.

Because last night the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, and Chicago is madness.

Yes, even though it’s officially summer, Chicago has been focused on our favorite winter sport for the last few weeks (not to mention the months before that).

I won’t bother recapping the game for you, but if you didn’t see it, you really missed out.

It was a fantastic sporting event, and one of the best endings to a hockey game I’ve ever seen… 2 goals in 17 seconds – just wow.

Along with some friends, the Husband and I were at a bar watching the action unfold. Let me just say, there were some stressful moments. Then, the Hawks went up 3-2 with a minute left in the game and the crowd went crazy.

When the clock counted down to zero, the free shots started coming in and the Stanley Cup was ours, once again.

No time for high quality photos… there was cheering to be done!

The Blackhawks will always hold a special place in my heart.

In the early-mid 1990’s my family had season tickets, and I spent many nights at the arena watching the team. After each game, my dad and I would spend the entire rest of the night listening to radio talk shows and analyzing the game.

And that was before they even showed the Chicago Blackhawks on TV!

Fast forward 15 years… and I’m still a Hawks fan.

Even though ticket prices are through the roof, I always manage to go to a few games each season.

(We’re talking over a hundred bucks a ticket for a regular season game. Yep, it’s hard to be a hockey fan in Chicago!)

Luckily, I’m now married to a hockey fan (the Husband was a goalie on his college team) so we can cheer on the Hawks, together!

As an added perk, he usually buys me an $8 beer or two at the games. Gosh I love being married.

Anyway, last night tens of thousands of people (many of whom probably couldn’t actually name more than 3 players on the Blackhawks, but that’s besides the point) flooded the streets of our city, and the partying and fireworks lasted well into the early morning hours. It was an almost riot-like atmosphere, which I observed from the safety of our apartment.

(There was no way in heck that I was going to go out there and deal with those crazies… Crowd surfing on a Monday night just isn’t my thing.)

But Chicago definitely knows how to celebrate a win, which is reason #184720 that I love this city.

2011, 2012, 2013 – GO HAWKS!

So I’m sure the rest of the world had fun watching the Bachelorette or doing whatever people normally do on Monday evenings, but here in Chicago, we were having one heck of a party.

And for good reason too…

The Blackhawks brought the Stanley Cup back to Chi-town, baby!

Cheers to another great hockey season!
