First things first, I can’t do a weekend shenanigans recap without first acknowledging the greatness that was ‘National Doughnut Day’ on Friday.
Because my coworkers are amazing, we got quite a few boxes of gourmet doughnuts from Glazed and Infused. I’m telling you, there is nothing better than a fancy doughnut on a Friday!
After work was finally done for the week, the Husband and I took a road trip to Cincinnati to see some of my family members.
My cousin is getting married and we celebrated him and his bride-to-be at a beautiful bridal shower on Saturday. There were mini cupcakes, mimosas in all different flavors, beautiful favors, and the decorations were gorgeous. Basically, it was the perfect shower for a perfect couple.
After the shower my cousin and I stopped to get some froyo, because a morning of drinking mimosas just won’t get me through the day! I loaded mine up with chocolate chips, cookie dough, chocolate sprinkles… It was fantastic and I’m sure not-at-all healthy.
Then I met back up with the Husband and we went to dinner and then a bar with a few of my aunts/uncles/cousins to watch the Blackhawks beat the LA Kings during double-OT. It was such an exciting game. Seriously.
So it looks like the Blackhawks will be representing Chicago in the Stanley Cup Finals!!!! I am freakin’ PUMPED about this.
On Sunday we ate some Skyline chili (which is mandatory during a trip to Cincinnati!) and then celebrated the high school graduation for another of my cousins.
That’s the great thing about having a big family, there’s always something to celebrate!
Can you tell we’re related?!
Then (even though we were sad to say goodbye), the Husband and I drove back home to Chi-Town.
Which reminds me – Do you want to know my favorite thing for a road trip? (I know this sounds like it’s going to be a sponsor plug, but really I just want to tell you about what got me through 10+ hours of driving this weekend and sadly no one cares about my opinion enough to pay for it. YET.)
The ‘This American Life’ app on my iPhone. It’s a few dollars, but once I bought it we were able to access all of the podcasts for This American Life, which kept us entertained for HOURS. Obsessed. If you don’t listen to this (the shows are free online), you may want to start immediately.
So, suffice it to say that I loved the crap out of everything about this weekend and I am not at all ready to start this week, but…
Cheers to celebrations (with family!)
