First things first, this little blog got a new design! Meg did a wonderful job and I’m pretty sure if you ask her super nicely (and pay her a few bucks) she’ll do your design, too! I’m so, so happy with the new look around here. I don’t know what took me so long to hire a professional – but I’m so glad I did.
OK, now onto the weekend recap, because it is Monday after all and I have to link up with Sami for some weekend shenanigans!
Well, on Friday some of my college girlfriends came into town and we went to Homeslice in Lincoln Park to get some New York style pizza. We all ran cross country together 6 years ago, and every summer we get together in Chicago for a night of eating and drinking and (occasionally) dancing.
One of the reasons I love runners: Almost all of us went to dinner with wet hair, and lots of natural waves were the result!
We also went out to a bar in the area, because obviously one dinner wasn’t enough time for us all to catch-up on each other’s life happenings. The last time I had seen this group of girls all together was at my bachelorette party last September… I can’t believe that was almost a year ago!
It was a beautiful summer night and I took advantage by riding my bike through the streets after my girlfriends and I parted ways.
I highly recommend bike riding through the streets at 2am… oh the things you will see. I saw so many girls crying and being consoled by other very drunk ladies and male acquaintances. I saw ladies running barefoot through the streets, carrying their (evidently) very uncomfortable heels. I saw huge groups of people attempting to wave down cabs in front of closing bars. And, I had multiple people offer me money to give them a ride on my bike. (Uh, no, you cannot get a ride home on my bike.)
Seriously, it was quite entertaining!
On Saturday, the Husband and I slept in a bit (because life is good!) and in the afternoon we went to a friend’s apartment for a few drinks. When the sun went down and the temperature became more bearable, we all went to a Burger Festival in the city. One of the live bands at the fest was Sister Hazel, and they were really fun to watch!
I even found a chickpea vegan burger at the fest, so even though I’m not a meat-eater, I was able to enjoy some burger goodness! Once again, the Husband and I rode through the streets of Chicago on our bicycles. Yay for free transportation!
On Sunday I woke up early and went to the gym where I got my sweat on in a major way. Then the Husband and I went to my favorite coffee shop and enjoyed some coffees (a Thai coffee for me!) at one of their patio tables. This is turning into a nice little Sunday routine for us!
Sidenote: Guys, Thai coffee is the best. I have no idea how they make it, but it tastes like iced coffee with milk and sugar. Yum.
We spent Sunday afternoon organizing our office space in our house. By ‘organizing’ I mean that we went through all of the boxes we hadn’t unpacked yet and decided to throw almost everything away. Because, you know, we’ve been in our apartment for over a year and it seems like we should probably be unpacked by now… right?! We’re a bit behind in this process, I would say.
(Also, nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me happier than getting crap stuff out of our apartment, I blame my mother’s influence for this general attitude. Less stuff = less to clean and move around! Organizing is a great thing.)
For dinner we went to the Husband’s cousin’s apartment for a family dinner! It was awesome. We drank wine, we ate French food (evidently it’s Bastille Day? I have no idea) and we enjoyed great conversation.
There isn’t much in the world I love more than delicious homemade food (as long as someone else is cooking it!) great white wine, and fantastic people – so suffice it to say that it was my kind of night. As an added bonus, we drove the Husband’s motorcycle around the city. I feel so free riding on bikes, even when they’re of the motorcycle variety.
To sum it up: my weekend was filled with bikes (of the motorcycle and bicycle variety), street fests, music, sunshine, close friends and family, dinner parties, beer and wine (and even some vodka), sweat, wavy hair, pizza, and a bit of caffeine.
Life is good.
Cheers to a new blog design and a fantastic summer weekend!
