Of course I got low on my wedding day!

OK, it’s been almost 11 months to the day since we got married and I STILL have not finished the wedding recaps.

No, my wedding was not 18 days long, I just keep forgetting that I never quite finished the play-by-play.

To recap… I’ve already had posts featuring:

The entire wedding recap.

The bridesmaids.

The groomsmen.

Getting to the altar.

Saying the vows.

Professional pictures of the bridal party.

The eating / fire dancer / beginning of the reception.

And all of this stuff was great and all, but….

My favorite part of the entire day/night was dancing with my guests.

Nothing beats dancing with all of my favorite people at one time.

This is the stuff dreams are made of, people.

So how do you have a great dance party at a wedding?

I will tell you.

WEAR A BIG WHITE DRESS. Pretty much, a large wedding dress is kind of ridiculous in itself, so anything you do in it looks natural. At least this is what I told myself.

WEAR COMFORTABLE DANCE SHOES. One of my best friends (and bridesmaids) bought me white sparkly TOMS shoes, and they were a lifesaver. Seriously. I now bring flats to every wedding, because I just don’t have as much fun jumping around in high heels and it’s no good to be sidelined at such an important event!

Showing off my flats to my mom while the Husband does who-the-heck-knows what dance.

GRIND ON GUESTS WHO AREN’T YOUR HUSBAND. Because it’s your wedding, and if you can’t do things like this at your wedding, you have the wrong friends.

PLAY MUSIC YOUR GUESTS LOVE. I can’t take any credit for this one, because we didn’t request any songs… but our DJs were amazing and people pretty much danced the entire time. I especially loved that people who didn’t even know each other before busted some moves on the dance floor!

SHOTS. I understand that some open bars frown on shots… which is a shame (but also probably smart). After my dad ordered the third round of ‘Bob Marley’ shots (yes, there were actually 50 of them ready on the bar), people got their butts on the dance floor.

HAVE A DANCE-OFF. The Husband’s brother (best man) was 21, my brother was 12. Obviously they had a dance-off and it was hilarious.

Can we take a second to look at the guests’ faces in the background of this photo? Hahahaha!

KEEP MOM HAPPY. My mom danced with EVERYONE whether she had met them before or not. When moms are happy, everyone is happy.

DANCE WITH GIRLFRIENDS. I hadn’t had the chance to dance with my college roomies since college! Soooo much fun.

GET LOW. I have always prided myself on being able to get low when dancing (and being able to get back up again) so of course I pulled this move out on my wedding day. I’m nothing if not a classy bride!

TAKE TIME TO DANCE WITH THE PARENTS. We didn’t plan an actual father/daughter or mother/son dance (although we ended up doing a father/daughter dance because one of the guests requested a song with the DJ without  me knowing… don’t do that!) but we danced with our parents during the reception.

HAVE THE PHOTOGRAPHER LEAVE BEFORE THINGS GET MESSY. I could have extended the photographer for another hour or so, but we decided it would be in everyone’s best interest for them to leave before things got really crazy. So do you see my mom bar-tending in these photos. Nope. Do you see old people getting crazy on the dance floor? Nope. This was a classy event, people.

Cheers to love and weddings!
