If there’s one thing I know about my personality, it’s that I’m definitely a ‘Type A’ person – for better or for worse! The Huffington Post describes this personality type as “more driven, and tend to be impatient and competitive and get irritated easily by impediments to your progress on things.”
Ummm yeah. This is me. Most definitely.
So how do I know I’m Type A, according to HuffPost’s article written on exactly this topic?
(You’ve probably seen this link on Facebook, because it’s been floating around there and re-posted by a lot of my fellow Type A friends, but here are my thoughts on it.)
// Waiting in long lines kills you a little bit inside. Ummmm yes. Anything that keeps me waiting is a waste of my time and there’s nothing that I love more than efficiency!
// You’ve been described as a perfectionist, overachiever, workaholic or all of the above. This one… not so much. I am very goal-oriented and have an intense drive to succeed, though! I’m just not necessarily very interested in my actual ‘career’ at this point. Although, I probably do have perfectionist tendencies.
// You bite your nails or grind your teeth. Only when my nails are uneven, darnit!
// You have a serious phobia of wasting time. YES, YES, YES. Is there an actual term for this?! I definitely have it. The article says “There’s never enough time to do what you want to do.” and I really believe truer words have never been spoken (as I write this blog post at 1am because I haven’t had a spare second all day!)
// You’re highly conscientious. Ohhhh yes. To a fault. Really, this article is pretty much written about me.
// You’ve always been a bit of a catastrophist. I prefer to say I’m a ‘realist’, thankyouverymuch.
// You frequently talk over and interrupt people. I promise, I’m working on this one! I think I even talk over myself in my mind.
// You have a hard time falling asleep at night. THANK GOODNESS this one isn’t about me. I’m so exhausted by the time I get to sleep that it takes me 3.7 seconds to be fast asleep once my head hits the pillow.
// People can’t keep up with you — in conversation or on the sidewalk. I think this one is also false… I am the slowest walker EVER and I love a good lengthy and deep conversation!
// You put more energy into your career than your relationships. Nope, not at all. I actually prioritize relationships above all else, to a fault! Well, I think it’s a fault… sometimes it’s frustrating when other people prioritize school/work over me when I’m putting them first!
… Hmmm maybe I’m not as Type A as I thought …
// Relaxing can be hard work for you. Nevermind, I’m totally Type A because this is SO TRUE. Relaxing is just another task on my calendar that I do because I have to because I think I read an article somewhere once that said it’s good for me, or something.
// You have a low tolerance for incompetence. I’m definitely not as forgiving of others as I should be… especially when people are inefficient. I’ll leave it at that.
// You’d be lost without your to-do list. Ohmygosh, I’m getting anxiety just thinking about what would happen if I lost all of my to-do lists! Life goals, vacations I want to go on, restaurants I want to try out… I have so many lists of things to accomplish!
// At work, everything is urgent. Well everything IS urgent at work! I think that’s the nature of the fields I’ve worked in, though. And, if it’s not urgent, I’ll just procrastinate and worry about something that is urgent.
// You’re sensitive to stress. Yep, stress makes me physically sick, and it has since I was very little. Bleh.
// You make it happen. ALWAYS. I love accomplishing things! Nothing makes me happier than coming up with a list of goals and checking every single thing off the list. Once I decide to do something, it’s happening for sure. No excuses. I wonder if most marathon runners are Type A people… does anyone have thoughts on this?!

If you’ve decided you’re definitely a Type A person, there are 26 side effects you may want to know about.
As predicted, I’m definitely (still) a Type A person, for better or for worse! I personally love this (and sometimes hate this) about myself! I’m going to say the Husband is mostly a Type B person for sure, which is why we balance each other so well. However, most of my best friends are definitely Type A people, and we understand each other’s stress and general drive to succeed, which is awesome.
So are you a Type A person?! I would love to know how many of you see yourself in these descriptions or are thinking “heck no, this is totally not me and those people sound nuts!” Also, are your friends mostly the same “type” of person you are?!
Cheers to differences!
