I’m pleased to report my June goals are going quite well! I’m very glad I wrote them down this month because I do believe that writing them down has led to me making some actual changes.
One of the initiatives I’m taking the most seriously is looking more put together.
I’ve really enjoyed exploring my sense of style lately. I feel a sense of freedom because this is the first time in my post-collegiate life that I’m not working for a company that demands a certain (conservative) look and I’m also not huge pregnant. Most importantly, I’m finally sleeping enough to want to put effort into my daily ‘look’! I guess it just kind of hit me within the past few weeks that I’m not wearing what makes me feel the most attractive on a daily basis, so that’s what I’m changing. I tend to wear things that are too big (because I’m a petite person and have lost weight recently, so it seems like nothing I have actually fits) and outfits that are conservative and fairly boring, which does not seem to go with my personality, or at least how I want to represent myself.
It’s not that I hate all of my clothes – it’s just that I’m not wearing them in a way that necessarily makes me the most happy.
For instance, I love heels, but I wear flats 99.99% of the time because I’m convinced heels are only for date nights. I’m changing this up because – gosh darn it – I feel confident in heels! I won’t be wearing them to the grocery store, but I will be wearing them out and about.
My wardrobe is always a work in progress. I’m attempting to have a capsule-ish wardrobe but I have also committed to not buy anything brand new for the next 12 months, so I’m being forced to take a more unique approach to changing up my look.
I’ve been shopping at consignment stores and tailoring clothes I already have to make them fit better (so I actually wear them) and have even attended a swap party – so even with the challenge of not shopping how I normally would, my closet is looking fresher than ever!
The clothes in my wardrobe are slowly but surely changing and I’m attempting to really find myself in my style (after 29+ years).
Another thing I changed this week is my hair. I’ve only dyed my hair a few times in my life (in my early 20’s) but I decided I needed a change and I’ve always wanted red hair, so dark red hair is what I now have! I went with a gloss so that it would naturally fade. This works better for my lifestyle because I just can’t commit to going to the salon every six weeks to dye the roots.
I’m obsessed with the way my stylist (Jay) curled it. He did this with only a blow dryer and a round brush – amazing, right?!
Next up: Makeup. I want to go back to Sephora to ask them what in the world I should be doing to make myself look a bit fresher. I feel like I always look like a tired mom, which is not what I’m going for at this point in time. Even if it is fairly absolutely accurate.
I’m really happy with the changes I’ve been making so far and am excited to continue looking and feeling better in the weeks/months/years to come!
