Four Awesome Articles I Read This Week (following a mini-rant)

I’ve watched a lot of debates this election season (including the especially entertaining one last night), and I must admit that I’m a little anxious for Super Tuesday. I honestly have no idea who the front-runners even are at this point, because I really think it could change by next wee. I’m praying that each American will make a wise choice with their vote.

Also, you’ll hear read me say this again and again… if you don’t know who the candidates are or what they stand for… get educated. There are a few things in life that really annoy me, and one of those things is when people say they aren’t voting because they know nothing about any of the candidates and they would be an uninformed vote. This is your chance. Get informed. If you don’t vote in the primaries… fine, I guess. But you have a year to get to know the candidates before the Presidential Election, and there is no excuse in the world not to be able to familiarize yourself with the main issues by then.

Make it a priority. I’m now bringing little babies into the world (in America, specifically) and I want the future to be as bright as possible for them. Your vote matters, and who our president is matters, whether you like politics (politicians) or not.

I’ll get off my soapbox now. Thanks.

Now a little light reading for your weekend…

Things I’ve Read on the Web

// Beautiful Moments Without Technology: “If we have one chance to experience something, what’s the best way to do it? A great photo or a great memory? Something for other people to see or something to experience forourselves?” (here)

// The Power of Buying Less by Buying Better: “According to a recent survey commissioned by the British charity Barnardo’s, a majority of women’s garments are worn a mere seven times before being pushed to the back of the closet or tossed into the garbage.” (here)

// This Is Why You Couldn’t Feel Her Love For You: “Your parent—your sister, your friend: the one who hurt you, the one who couldn’t love you—she was impeded. That love was there though. It couldn’t get to you—it couldn’t get to you—but it was there—gathering power, swirling, festering, vicious in its desperation for its release. It was there—is there—all for you. That parent’s love EXISTS. It just couldn’t get past the boulder.” (here)

// Having It All Kinda Sucks: “Here’s what we tell women today: You not only can, but should have a career and children — because if you don’t, you’re basically a) lazy, b) weak, c) not a real woman. But also, you should do it without any support. Without government-paid maternity leave (what are you, a socialist?). Without too much childcare (because then you’re a shitty mom) or falling behind on the job (because then you’re a shitty employee  —  typical woman!). Without too much help from your husband (because then he’s a pussy).” (here)
