Tomorrow we’ll celebrate the birth of Jesus, but today is an important day, too, because our families are celebrating the birth of the Husband! (Although, they prefer to call him Tim.)
And because I don’t talk about him enough (yeah I know, I talk about him kind of a lot), I’m dedicating this little post to him.
Last year we celebrated while camping in the Serengeti. Our cook made us a cake on the stove, with peppers and carrots spelling “H Birthday Tim’. Then all the cooks sang the Swahili version (which was about 10 minutes long) of “Happy Birthday” in front of all the campers. Then the Spanish campers sang “Happy Birthday” in Spanish and we all sang in English. It was magical.
Because he’s embarking on the last year of his 20’s (yikes, I’m starting to feel old by association!)…
Here are 29 things that amaze me (every single day) about the Husband.
(In no particular order)
- He can leave his socks all over the house and not notice them. Ever. No matter how long they’ve been on the kitchen counter / o the coffee table / on the floor/ etc.
- He can do the same thing with crumpled up (used) napkins.
- His confidence.
- He understands all sorts of computer / technical stuff that I will never, ever understand.
- I’m a really difficult person (really, I am, my family likes to tell me so!) and he has TONS of patience with me.
- He doesn’t like sweets unless it’s fruit flavored desserts.
- He can’t lie. At all. And when he tries, it’s horribly unsuccessful.
- His ability to talk to absolutely anyone.
- He barely follows professional football, or any other professional sports, really.
- He can come up with a bijillion creative ideas at any given time. Especially for app ideas and technology related stuff.
- He rarely ever gets upset or mad or flustered, no matter what the situation is.
- Which means that he’s the best person I’ve ever traveled with, because he can adapt easily to any situation.
- He can leave the house in the worst outfits (by my standards, and I’m no fashionista) and not even think twice about it.
- I’ve never heard him say anything (really) negative about anyone.
- He has the ability to plan truly thoughtful and sweet dates.
- But he has also amazed me with how bad at buying presents he can be.
- His (hilarious) dance skills, which especially come out at weddings.
- He is beyond generous and really does not take money very seriously.
- He somehow manages to listen to me for an entire 5 minutes and not really pay attention to anything I say, and asks me to repeat it all later.
- He plays a goalie in hockey, which means that he calmly blocks pucks as they’re being slapped straight at him / his head.
- He honestly thinks I look the best in ponytails and sweatpants, with no makeup on.
- He doesn’t know the (correct) lyrics to ANY song ever written, but he thinks he does and sings horribly inaccurate words to each song. In public. Loudly.
- He is the kindest person I know, by far.
- He is (practically) the exclusive dog-walker in the winter, and never complains. Ever.
- He is endlessly supportive of anything that makes me happy. I can work, I can stay home, I can make whatever plans I want to, as long as I’m happy, the Husband is happy.
- He never gets annoyed with my family. Or his family. Or anyone. I think this qualifies him for saint status.
- He has the ability to sleep for 20 hours per day. Every day. It’s really incredible. (And annoying for me).
- He can’t cook or bake very well because somehow he either forgets ingredients or measures them horribly wrong. I don’t understand how he manages this, but he does! Maybe he’s just trying to get out of those kitchen responsibilities…
- He really is the best husband (and friend) I could have imagined for myself! He’s truly my partner in each and every thing we do, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that.
Sorry, parts of that got mushier than I intended, but you get the idea! He’s a pretty special guy and today is all about him, before we switch gears into Christmas!
Now, just send some positive thoughts into the universe, because his birthday present hasn’t been delivered yet and I need it to be here TODAY otherwise I’m officially going to be labeled ‘worst wife ever’. At least I made cupcakes…
Cheers to my Husband of just over a year, my best friend of 3.5 years, and my life partner forever,
